Do I need to name my daughter’s tour kit.

This is advisable but not essential. Most of the girls will bring the kit back to school with them next year, and therefore name-tapes are a good idea. For the purposes of the tour, it is essential that the girls at least number the clothes. Each girl has been given a tour number (from 1 -39) and if this is written on a label it will allow us to identify who owns which piece of clothing.

How much money should my daughter take on tour?

Your daughter needs to take some money to cover lunches and some suppers. During the day, the girls may need to find a light lunch in a town or city. There will  a maximum of 10 lunches and 5 evening meals that they need to buy. In all the cities we visit, such food will be easily available and not expensive. The girls will choose from fast food to sandwiches for lunch and Italian or American style restaurants in the evenings. They will also have opportunities to go shopping and may choose to buy t-shirts or similar souvenirs. 200- 250 pounds should be ample.

What is the best way for her to take money?

We strongly advise the girls not to carry large amounts of money with them. The easiest method to access money is through a bank card and ATMs. Teenage accounts vary and we advise you to speak to your bank to see if this is possible. Most high-street banks have agreements with Australian/NZ banks and will not charge for withdrawing money (although most will charge commission.) There are traveller’s cheque cards which can be used to withdraw money from ATMs. Traveller’s cheques are the most secure way, but the girls need their passports to cash them and we try to keep the passports in hotel safes as much as possible.  The staff will look after any traveller’s cheques. If you need and further advice, please email tph@oundleschool.org.uk

What do I take as billeting gifts?

Last time the girls took soaps, tea towels, fudge, playing cards from Northumberland or something from your local area.

How much kit can I take with me?

PLEASE note that your kit bags are large, and if filled will exceed the weight allowance.  The weight limit is 20kgs per person. The airline will charge your £25 per extra kilo per flight.

Weigh your bag before you go!

Another incentive to keeping the amount of kit low is that you will have some room to bring back mementos or T-shirts from the places we visit.  There is no way around this.  Do not load your hand luggage with extra weight as the airline will not let you on.  With the increase in fuel charges this is going to be the way to travel.
